Two regional jets operated by Delta Air Lines were involved in a impact while taxiing at LaGuardia airfield in New York, resulting in one injury in what the airline called a “low-speed collision”.
Details of the Incident
According to a announcement from Delta, the airfoil of an aircraft transporting 32 passengers and preparing to take off for Roanoke, Virginia, made contact with the body of another plane that had landed from Charlotte, North Carolina, with 61 individuals on board.
A flight attendant sustained non-life threatening wounds and was transported to a hospital, as reported by the local airport authority. No accounts of passenger injuries, the company said.
On-Scene Accounts
“Their right wing clipped our nose and the cockpit we have damage to our windscreen and ... some of our screens in here,” a captain reported, based on ATC recordings.
Traveler William Lusk described the incident, stating, “After landing, the aircraft ‘halted abruptly, shuddered, and veered right’. An eerie silence fell over the cabin, broken only by the pilot’s calm announcement: ‘We’ve been involved in a collision; please stay calm.’”
Facility Activities and Reaction
Remaining flights and services at the airport were anticipated to proceed normally, according to Delta.
“Delta will work with all relevant authorities to review what occurred as safety of our customers and people comes before all else,” the release said. “We extend our apologies to those affected by this incident.”
The Delta Connection aircraft involved in the collision are operated by Endeavor Air.
